Cinemas in Somerset who received grants thanks to Culture Recovery Fund | Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News

SIX cinemas in Somerset have received more than £300k from the Culture Recovery Fund. Westlands in Yeovil received £38,926 in the latest round of grants, whereas the Film Centre in Bridgwater, Ritz in Burnham-on-Sea, Wellesley Cinema in Wellington, Wells Film Centre in Wells and Westway Cinema in Frome all received grants in December. The Film Centre received £42,143 of funding. Dan Harris, operations director at Scott Cinemas (owners of the Film Centre), said the money will go towards making changes to help customers feel safe . Scott Cinemas are very pleased to have been awarded a safety grant from the Culture Recovery Fund, which will go towards the changes necessary to make our customers feel safe and also welcome when they visit our cinemas, he said.

Burnham-On-Sea s Ritz Cinema given £47,142 lifeline funding amid Covid closure

Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Cinema has been given the “lifeline” of a huge arts grant to help it stay in business despite the ongoing closure caused by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The British Film Institute has awarded £47,142 to Burnham’s Ritz Cinema from its culture recovery fund and safety grant fund. The cinema in Burnham’s Victoria Street has been losing money after being forced to close for many months during 2020. It is currently shut while our area is in Tier 4 restrictions. Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, owner Pat Scott, pictured, says the money will allow it to continue showing films and re-open when restrictions are lifted.
