As many as 1,347 persons tested positive for Covid, while 20 lost their lives to the virus in the district in the past 24 hours.
Total active cases have reached 10,316, while 1,451 have lost their lives since March 2020. Active cases in the district were 10,316.
Those who tested positive included four healthcare workers, two pre-operative cases and an undertrial, while tracing of 327 is still to be done.
As many as 16 men and four women lost their life to the deadly virus. They were residents of Jammu Colony, Jagraon, Lohara, Guru Nanak Nagar, Doraha, Sanhewal, Mahajan Nagar, Chandigarh Road, Barewal Road, Prem Vihar, Giaspura, Haibowal Kalan, Tajpur Road, Janta Nagar, Akash Nagar, Pama village, Vikas Nagar and Kailash Nagar.
Ludhiana: Four residents of Ludhiana died of Covid-19 and 415 tested positive on Wednesday.
As per the health department bulletin, nine deaths were reported on the day. These included two patients each of Sangrur and Jalandhar and one of Hoshiarpur.
The Ludhiana casualties included an 86-year-old man of Sarabha Nagar, who had hypertension and coronary artery disease; a 67-year-old woman of Gill Road; a 55-year-old man of Guru Nanak Nagar with hypertension; and a 66-year-old man of Samrala, who had diabetes and hypertension. Civil surgeon Dr Sukhjivan Kakkar said the district toll has risen to 1,186 and that of outsiders to 612.
To date, 8,21,465 persons have been tested.
Ludhiana: A day after the death of hosiery trader Rahul Jain at a hotel in Bhadaur House here, the police have arrested a Non-resident Indian (NRI) Sandeep Singh in this connection. It is alleged that Sandeep injected some drug to Rahul, following which he died of suspected drug overdose.
According to the police, Sandeep and Rahul had met via social media for the first time on February 4. Besides Sandeep, the police also suspect involvement of another person in the case, who is seen with Sandeeep in the CCTV footage of the hotel.
Jyoti Jain of New Kitchlu Nagar, wife of the deceased, has stated that her husband had left the house on February 16, saying that he is going to pay his obeisance at Mata Chintpurni temple in Himachal Pradesh with his gym friends. But, on February 18, her nephew Vineet Jain informed her about the death of her husband in a hotel room.
