LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Impact Lufkin hosted a Kidsâ Fishing Day Saturday.
The event was held at the Old Lufkin Country Club.
Impact Lufkin officials say they invited about 50 children to the event. For many of them, it was their first time fishing.
A Texas Game Warden was on hand to teach about fishing, conservation, and safety along with dozens of mentors, making memories thatâll last a lifetime.

Macy Rundell, a senior at Alpena High School, recently won the Optimist Club of Alpena’s essay contest based on a theme of “Reaching Your Dreams by Choosing Optimism.”
Rundell was awarded a certificate and medallion on Feb. 15 for the honor. In addition, the essay will be sent to the district level to be judged along with winners from other Optimist Clubs in the district. A college scholarship of $2,500 is available for the top winner at the district level.

The Kids Fishing Day Team announced the Kids’ Fishing Day at Camp 7 Lake Campground has been cancelled for 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 7,400 youngsters have participated in Kids’ Fishing Day during its 28 year history and the team is looking forward to hosting the event once again in June 2022, during Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend. “The Kids’ Fishing Day team is grateful to all of those who have donated fishing gear or money toward the event and will use those funds and gear for next year’s event. The KFD team asks everyone to stay safe in the meantime, so that together we can all look forward to next year’s Kids’ Fishing Day,” the group stated in a press release.
