Producing over a million bottles a year, Thailand is a little known but increasingly adept wine producing region. Vines have been planted there since the 1960s despite the humid tropical climate and the Thai portfolio is now considered by many as the ultimate in “New Latitude wines”.
Thailand’s dominant grape variety known as the Malaga Blanc – probably the Spanish grape Teneron, known in France as Panse de Provence – was introduced in the 1600s as a gift from a French diplomat on behalf of Louis XIV to King Naraj.

BURI RAM: Peng Yimram has had a hard time making ends meet since his elephant - he calls her Cherry - killed a man at a jungle hotel in the Khao Yai area last month.
Mr Peng, 51, and his 28-year-old elephant returned to their home in Satuk disrict, in the north of Buri Ram province, after the management of the hotel where they worked said they were no longer welcome.

Lost wild deer stranded in canal rescued in Thailand Duration: 03:41 A lost wild deer stranded in a muddy canal was rescued in Thailand. The animal was chased by a group of guard dogs while searching for food near a village and jumped into the water to escape in Nakhon Nayok province on May 9. Residents heard the dogs barking and saw the weak male deer stuck in the grassy part of the pond so they called the animal rescuers for help. When the rescue team arrived, they tied a rope around his body before they pulled it out of the water together. A team of veterinarians also waited nearby and checked the deer’s health immediately. Rescue volunteer Taweep Lomwong said the deer was weak and his hind legs were wounded from escaping the dogs. He said: ‘He was very weak and had wounds on his back legs. Virtual run aims to save the hornbills

Hornbill lovers and running enthusiasts are invited to join the Save Hornbill Run , a virtual run that is accepting applications until July 25.

Held to raise funds for the Hornbill Research Foundation by ThaiRun and Friendly Creature page, the virtual run is open to anyone to run 5km anytime and anywhere but within one day.
They are required to use a smartwatch or mobile app to keep track of their distance be it Strava, RunKeeper, Mapmyrun, GarminConnect or NikeRun. The results should be submitted to vr.thai.run/hornbill by July 30.
