“Singapore was historically a trading post and financial hub, so you have different cultures and ethnicities coming together to promote creativity,” explains Jason Williams, a Queensland native who moved to the Lion City five years ago to serve as creative director for Proof & Co as well as Master of Gin at Atlas.
“There are tons of expats from the United States and elsewhere, along with a local middle class that have come up in a globalised economy. They experience cocktail culture elsewhere and bring it back here. And since food culture in Asia is so integral, people already have much a broader palate compared to in Australia, where I’m from. Here, they’re more willing to try new things, from smoky mezcals to European liqueurs.”
E-commuter boats to ply Chao Phraya

Chao Phraya Express Boat has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) to run a pilot project of electric boats for commuters on the Chao Phraya River.
The two yellow boats were developed by Kasetsart University (Sriracha Campus). Each boat can accommodate up to 80 passengers and is powered by 214kWh lithium-ion batteries, which can cover a distance of 60km on a single charge. The boats top speed is about 10 knots or 18.5kph and they are equipped with an air-conditioning system powered by rooftop solar cells.

ALATi, the Mediterranean restaurant at Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok has reopened for in-dining services. However for those who prefer eating at home, it unveils the Up the Road three-course set menus from France, Spain, Italy and Turkey. Priced at 990 baht, each set is cooked to order and is available as a takeaway or for delivery via Line Man and Foodpanda.
