Four flee Phetchabun jail, one caught

PHETCHABUN: Four prisoners broke out of the Phetchabun Prison in the small hours of Monday. One was recaptured, three were still at large.
Provincial police said the jailbreak was reported about 3am.
Local police and prison officials set out in pursuit of the escapees and police stations nearby were alerted to intercept them.
About 6am one of the fugitives, Vacharin Chanboon, 35, who was from Phetchabun s Nong Phai district, was reported to have been caught. He was hiding in a school in Muang district.

When Weerawat Karunborirak left to work in Israel in 2018, he had only one thing on his mind: to earn enough money to build a house for his family.
The house in Khao Kho district has been completed with the money he sent his wife, but the 43-year-old worker will never live in it.
Weerawat was one of the two Thai workers killed in a Palestinian rocket attack on an Israeli farm from Gaza on Tuesday.

This year s New Year countdown celebrations may have to be divided into small zones with a limited number of participants, the government said on Wednesday, amid fears that it would be difficult to control the spread of Covid-19 if a large crowd were allowed to gather at a single spot.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will today discuss these and other proposals for the upcoming New Year festivities, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
