INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) An elementary school on the city’s west side is trying to make sure its students have a little more warmth over the holidays.
The Lew Wallace School #107 hosted a winter coat giveaway on Friday, hoping to provide for the families of more than 500 students who may be in need. The district partnered with Kingsway Church to get coats, hats and gloves to those who need them most.
The school serves students who come from 27 countries and speak 31 languages. Many of those students and their families are refugees.
Lew Wallace Assistant Principal Jessica Smith, who spear-headed the effort, talked Friday about what inspired them to make it happen. Watch the video for more.
An Indianapolis Elementary School Is Making Sure Students Have Coats This Winter
INDIANAPOLIS An elementary school on the city’s west side wants to make sure its students are warm this winter.
The Lew Wallace School #107 partnered with Kingsway Church to get coats, hats, gloves, and shoes for its 500 students.
“A lot of our families come to us from different countries, a lot of warmer countries, and so if it’s their first year here in America, or in Indiana they don’t know how cold it can get,” said Lew Wallace Assistant Principal Jessica Smith. “These coats can adequately prepare them.”
