Two dacoits killed in Burewala ‘encounter’ National March 6, 2021 BUREWALA: Two dacoits were killed during a police ‘encounter’ near Chak 451/EB on Friday. According to the police, four dacoits ridding on two motorbikes snatched a motorcycle and cash from Kashif Bhatti of Canal Gardens and fled. On receiving the report, the police surrounded the area and managed to chase the robbers near PI Link Canal. On seeing the police, the accused opened fire at the police party, which was retaliated. As a result, two dacoits were killed on the spot. However, the police claimed that the dacoits were killed by the firing of their own accomplices. According to the police, the killed dacoits were identified as Muhammad Tariq of Okara and Muhammad Akram of Chishtian, Bahawalnagar. They were involved in more than a dozen cases. The police have started investigation.

Left-handed Sharjeel hammered 13 fours and five huge sixes in his quick-fire 74-ball feat as Sindh chased the 187-run target in the 29th over after losing just three wickets. Sharjeel, who hit his eighth List A hundred, dominated the 160-run partnership for the opening stand with Khurram Manzoor, who fell for 59-ball 52, striking five fours. Azam Khan remained not out on 16 and Asad Shafiq two not out. Hammad Azam got 2-21 in six overs.

All-round Anwar powers Sindh to victory

Sports January 11, 2021 KARACHI: Anwar Ali’s all-round performance on Sunday enabled Sindh to pull off their first win when they overwhelmed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 63 runs in their second round fixture of the Pakistan Cup One-day tournament for the First XI here at NBP Sports Complex. Anwar scored 65 off 42 balls as Sindh posted 256 all out. Anwar then took 2-38 as Sindh folded KP for 193. Batting first Sindh were at one stage 162-6. However, Anwar and Hassan Khan (66) showed lot of responsibility, sharing 92 vital runs for the seventh wicket association to stabilise the innings. Anwar was more destructive, hammering four fours and three sixes in his fantastic knock. Hassan, an emerging allrounder, smacked three fours and one six in his 73-ball responsible knock.

Central Punjab move closer to Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final

Sports December 29, 2020 KARACHI: Holders Central Punjab put themselves on the brink of qualification for the final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (first-class) when they reduced Southern Punjab to 314-7 in their second innings, having first forced them to follow on the third day of their four-day last round fixture here at SBP Ground on Monday. Southern Punjab are eight runs ahead with only three wickets in hand. Opener Zain Abbas spearheaded Southern Punjab’s innings with a superb 118 off 172 balls. He hit 18 fours and one six in his maiden century of the season. Agha Salman once again batted well, scoring 79 off 119 balls, smacking 12 fours. Umar Siddiq (32) and Imran Rafiq (30) were the other notable contributors.

Israrullah, Rehan centuries help Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reach 380-4

Sports December 27, 2020 KARACHI: Israrullah (127) and Rehan Afridi (127) hit fine centuries to enable Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to reach 380-4 in their first innings against Northern on the opening day of their tenth and last round four-day fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (first-class) here at National Stadium on Saturday. Left-handed Israrullah scored 158 runs for the opening stand with Sahibzada Farhan, who chipped in with 62 off 87 balls, striking six fours and three sixes. Israr, who hit 17 fours and two sixes in his first century of the season, shared 67 runs for the second wicket with Rehan, who smacked 17 fours and three sixes in his 167-ball knock. Rehan then shared 146 for the third wicket with Kamran Ghulam, who was batting on 53 when the bails were drawn. Kamran had smashed four fours and one six from 132 deliveries.
