A Greene County judge has found a Springfield man guilty of first-degree murder for a 2019 shooting at a north-side motel.
Seth Gomez, 21, was convicted of first-degree murder and armed criminal action this week following a bench trial in front of Judge Jason Brown.
Brown determined Gomez was guilty of murdering 29-year-old Calvin Allen Jr. after cool reflection on the matter.
Gomez now faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole. He is scheduled to be formally sentenced in July.
According to a news release from the Greene County Prosecutor s Office, Gomez stabbed Allen twice while Allen was laying on a bed at the the Ozark Inn on North Glenstone Avenue.
Almost two years ago, Springfield-based rapper and business owner Charles Crawford was returning from an out-of-town show when someone shot into the vehicle Crawford was in. The bullet traveled through a friend s leg and lodged in Crawford s back. The person s leg they said it saved my life, Crawford said. His leg slowed down the velocity of the bullet.
Crawford said he died twice as first responders and surgeons worked to save his life. He recalls incredible pain, his vision shaking, passing out multiple times, seeing his mom in the emergency room crying and begging to see his kids. I felt like I wasn t going to come back, he said. All I kept thinking about was my kids.
