In Mizoram, at least 920 pigs were killed due to African swine fever (ASF) in less than a month, an official said.
Lalghanthanga, joint director of the Animal Border and Veterinary Department, told RTI that four districts were affected by the ASF on March 21 from Lungsen district in Lunglei district of South Mizoram.
So far 577 pigs have been killed in Lungsen village, and 32 have died in Electric Weng area of Lunglei city. In addition, 78 people died in the Edenther neighborhood and 74 in the armed Veng area of Aizawl.

As many as 125 pigs have died at Mizoram’s Lungsen village since March 21. According to an official, a preliminary test indicated African Swine Fever (ASF) as the main cause behind the unusual pig deaths in a Mizoram village.
Samples from the dead pigs were tested at the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry in Selesih near Aizawl on Monday as a part of the preliminary investigation, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Joint Director (Livestock Health) Dr Lalhmingthanga said.
Official sources said preventive measures were being taken to contain the spread of the disease.

GUWAHATI: Over 100 domestic pigs died in a Mizoram village and preliminary tests indicated African swine fever (ASF) as the cause of the deaths.
Official sources said preventive measures were being taken to contain the spread of the disease.
“There is an outbreak of the disease in Lungsen in Lunglei district. Over 100 pigs died till yesterday (Wednesday),” Mizoram’s Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Dr Hmarkunga told this newspaper on Thursday.
He said as a part of the preventive measures, the import and export of pigs to and fro the village had been restricted.
