BUCYRUS - At some point in the next week or two, the number of COVID-19 deaths in Ohio will exceed the total population of Bucyrus.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, Ohio s death toll from COVID-19 stood at 11,230, according to the Ohio Department of Health s website.
That s nearing 11,764 Bucyrus total population as of July 2019, the most recent figure available from the U.S. Census Bureau website. That really brings it into focus as to how serious it is losing a town the size of Bucyrus to COVID, Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser said. I was at a funeral . for former councilman Bobby Carter, and in the sermon, the pastor said this was his 16th COVID funeral. That’s 16 people that, you know, they may have had health issues, but they weren’t ready to die.
Crawford County EMA: COVID-19 vaccine available for people age 80 and older

BUCYRUS The Crawford County Emergency Management Agency has announced that the county will receive a limited amount of COVID-19 vaccine, which will be allocated to the priority groups outlined in Gov. Mike DeWine’s address on Jan. 7.
For the week beginning on Monday, Jan. 18, the eligible population to receive the vaccine includes people 80 years of age and older, according to a press release issued by EMA Director Jette Cander.
“Please be patient and kind to all those who will be scheduling your appointment,” Cander said. “Appointments will not be accepted via Messenger. You must have an appointment to receive a vaccination at all facilities.”

GALION The Galion City Schools Board of Education held its first two meetings of the new year with the annual organizational meeting, followed by the regular monthly meeting, on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Mike Mateer was elected to serve as Board of Education president for 2021, and Grant Garverick will serve as the Board vice president this calendar year. Following the oath of office, the board approved its meeting calendar for 2021.
Cander said her department has been tasked with coordinating the vaccination effort. I m doing the logistics portion, she said. Emergency management is tasked with providing a statement to the public so that they know where they can go to get vaccinated, who is eligible that week the information portion of it. So I m just coordinating all the public health and private providers, so it s one point of information for everybody to share.
People who want to receive a COVID-19 vaccination can schedule an appointment in the county starting Thursday, the release stated. People should not attempt to schedule at more than one location.
