Galion City Council approves $400K for infrastructure development By Andrew Carter - acarter@aimmediamidwest.com GALION City Council has approved the appropriation of $400,000 for infrastructure development on the north end of Galion. Council voted 4-3 on Tuesday to pass Ordinance No. 2021-38 on its third and final reading. The money was appropriated from the city’s permanent improvement fund and will be used for the construction of a roadway and extension of water and sewer service on property the city donated to the Galion Port Authority. That property is located at the junction of Brandt Road, Ohio 598, and U.S. 30 on the city’s north end. It’s the site that has been suggested for the proposed Freese Center athletic complex.

City Council, Port Authority will continue Freese Center discussions GALION Discussions about the proposed Freese Center athletic complex will continue. During its regular meeting on Tuesday, Galion City Council decided to meet with the Galion Port Authority on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 16-17 to talk about issues related to the Freese Center including funding for construction, infrastructure, and operations. Committee of the Whole meetings, which include all council members, will conducted following the Economic Development and Airport Committee meeting on Tuesday and after the Finance Committee meeting on Wednesday. Both committee meetings begin at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on the City of Galion Facebook page. The Committee of the Whole meetings will also be shown on the city’s Facebook page.

Galion City Council conducting public survey about proposed Freese Center By Andrew Carter - acarter@aimmediamidwest.com GALION Galion City Council is currently conducting a survey to gauge public interest in the proposed Freese Center athletic complex. According to The City of Galion website, planning for the regional athletic facility began in 2015. The Crawford Partnership for Education & Economic Development and the Galion Mayor’s Office have been collaborating on the project since then. In 2019, the Galion Port Authority purchased land for the facility near the junction of U.S. 30 and Ohio 598. The survey is available online through the SurveyMonkey website (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LYCSXF3) and on The City of Galion website (http://www.galion.city/).
