Mar 13, 2021 STONEHAM, Mass. ( WBZ NewsRadio) A dog from Stoneham is receiving an award from a major animal rights group after saving a man s life earlier this week. It happened on Wednesday when Diesel, a German Shepherd, was walking in the woods with his owner Thomas Walsh. Diesel noticed a man had fallen through the ice in Quarter Mile Pond nearby and alerted Walsh who was wearing headphones in his ears. Walsh then safely pulled the man out of the water with the help of another passerby. PETA is awarding Diesel with the Heroic Dog Award which includes a framed certificate and a doggie bag full of toys and treats for him to enjoy.

A Massachusetts man is recovering from hypothermia after he was rescued by two bystanders after he fell into an icy pond in Stoneham.
