Festival offers tulip painting classes taught by local artist

Festival offers tulip painting classes taught by local artist Sentinel Staff HOLLAND Tulips are the star of the show during Tulip Time, so it s no surprise visitors and Holland natives alike want to take home something of the tulip for themselves. It could be an album of photos from their visit to Windmill Island or in the case of those who attended one of the art classes this year a beautifully painted vase to hold a bouquet of tulips.  Local artist Carolyn Stich, whose bright and bold designs have been chosen twice to be Tulip Time s official festival poster, led classes in painting on glass and canvas during this year s festival.

First weekend of Tulip Time a hit, despite virus

First weekend of Tulip Time a hit, despite virus HOLLAND Despite concerns that the COVID-19 pandemic and a pared down schedule of events would keep people from coming to Holland to see the tulips this year, Holland s hotel rooms sold out the first weekend of Tulip Time and visitors flocked to the city.  I was totally thrilled with the number of people who were here in town taking in all of the Tulip Time activities and honestly floored that there were so many people in town, said Gwen Auwerda, Tulip Time s executive director. It was beyond my expectations. Every single one of our events was sold out Saturday and Sunday.

A New View preview: A look at large art installations in Camden

A New View preview: A look at large art installations in Camden CAMDEN  Commuters look out the windows as the PATCO Hi-Speedline trains rumble past a dead-end lot on Pershing Street in Camden s Whitman Park neighborhood. Usually, there s not much to see: Lines of rowhouses. One or two abandoned, boarded-up properties. A few cars. Some trash, dumped illegally. A giant black panther. Wait. It was. It is. Invincible Cat, by husband-and-wife artists Don Kennell and Lisa Adler, is 15,000 pounds of what used to be car hoods (56 of them, to be exact). And it s keeping watch on this vacant lot tucked inside a neighborhood along the Hi-Speedline not only to entertain riders, but also to call attention to a serious problem plaguing the City of Camden: illegal dumping and pollution.
