Teenager Charged For Killing 68-Year-Old Hiker, Motive Remains Unknown

The suspect behind the fatal stabbing of 68-year-old Lisa Thorborg has been apprehended but his identity cannot be revealed. It appears the assailant is a 17-year-old teenager who was arrested on a Carlsbad beach on Monday.
Thorborg was hiking alone before the brutal killing took place. Thorborg had moved to Carlsbad from Oregon in May following the death of her husband in 2017. The 68-year-old posted on Nextdoor that she was looking for anyone who would be interested in going hiking with her.

SAN DIEGO There is a wave of relief in Carlsbad, after an arrest was made in connection with the murder of Lisa Thorborg. The 68-year-old grandmother was out walking on a popular trail in November when she was fatally stabbed. But there is also shock that the person arrested is just 17-years-old.
Dena Beyrouty saw the arrest from a balcony overlooking the beach in Carlsbad. “I m telling you - he just looked like a normal Southern California surfer kid,” she said. The arrest happened around 3:30 Monday afternoon on the sand near Carlsbad Village Drive. “He looked sad - like - it just felt like - maybe the journey s over. I m done.”

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) Carlsbad Police announced Monday that a suspect has been arrested in the murder of Lisa Thorborg, the woman stabbed to death on a North County trail.
According to police, Thorborg was found fatally stabbed on the Hosp Grove Trail in late November.
The body was found by a passerby who called police.

Some restaurant owners tell ABC 10News theyâre not doing it out of defiance, but as a way to survive.
âWe have to stand up for ourselves. We have to open or else we lose the risk of losing our business entirely,â said Annie Rammel, the owner of Oak + Elixir restaurant in Carlsbad.
Rammel said she spent $7,000 to have a deck built outside of Oak + Elixir on State Street to provide a safe dining option for patrons.
