(WALB) - The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank of Macon are teaming up to give away food to area veterans. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at buildings 34/35 on the Dublin VAMC campus. Donations will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. “During this public health and economic crisis, I’m inspired with the Dublin VAMC employees, Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, and the selfless volunteers who go above and beyond so that veterans can receive wholesome, nutritious food,” said David Whitmer, medical center director. “Working with our community partners to help our veterans in need is consistent with our mission to serve those who have borne the battle and their families.”

On Monday, one part of the VECTR (Veterans Education Career Transition Resource) Center in Warner Robins turned into a vaccination site for veterans. The partnership with the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center is focused on getting more veterans vaccinated.  I called this week Monday, in fact and they set me up for today at 10:30, Bradley said.  Dublin VA Medical Director David Whitmer says so far 5,934 vets have been vaccinated or about 14 percent of the veteran population the Dublin VA serves.

Listen to the content of this post: WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new site will help distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to veterans in Houston County. This is thanks to a partnership between the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and the Georgia Veterans Education Career Transition Resource (VECTR) Center. Starting Monday, February 8th, the vaccine will be available to veterans 65 and older who are currently enrolled at the Dublin VAMC. The vaccines will be available at the Georgia VECTR Center located at 1001 S. Armed Forces Blvd in Warner Robins. “Making the COVID-19 vaccine available to as many Veterans as possible is one of our highest priorities as we continue to fight this pandemic,” Carl Vinson VA Medical Center Director David L. Whitmer, FACHE said. “We are currently prioritizing Veterans 65 and older since they are the most at-risk demographic and we become more effective by expanding vaccination administration to areas with high Veteran populations.”
