WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - It was a big night for teachers in the Wichita Falls ISD as the district celebrated some of its best and brightest.
The annual Teacher of the Year banquet honored 26 teachers all who were selected by their peers as their campus’ Teacher of the Year.
Two teachers took home the top spot Tuesday night.
Fourth Grade Teacher Jayme Beckham was named Elementary Teacher of the Year and CEC Teacher Carl Bishop was named the district’s Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Part-time warden to look after cemetery );
A PART-TIME warden is to be hired to maintain Fairmile Cemetery in Henley.
The town council will pay the successful candidate up to £5,995 a year to work about 10 hours a week, depending on the season.
In recent years the cemetery has been maintained by teams of offenders under the Community Payback scheme, for which the council paid a similar amount.
However, the council struggled to allocate tasks effectively because it didn’t known how many offenders would be available week-by-week.
It took the work back in-house during the coronavirus pandemic and saw a “marked” improvement in quality. In a report to the council s recreation and amenities committee, town clerk Sheridan Jacklin-Edward and parks manager Karl Bishop said the warden could handle enquiries from officials or loved ones of the deceased.
Christmas tree shredding raises £1,000 );
A CHRISTMAS tree shredding service raised £1,000 for Henley in Bloom.
Scores of residents took their trees to Mill Meadows on Saturday to be shredded by Henley Town Council’s head of parks services Karl Bishop and Deputy Mayor David Eggleton.
The pair threw the trees into a mechanical chipper.
Residents paid £2 each to have a tree shredded and £5 to have one collected from their home.
Councillor Eggleton, who is also the chairman of Henley in Bloom, carried out the collections and made £600 from that alone.
He said: “It’s an amazing amount of money and we can do a lot with that.”
