Idaho Lawmakers Advance Bill That Would Ban Critical Race Theory In Schools

By Ryan Shepard Apr 28, 2021 Lawmakers in the state of Idaho have moved one step closer to banning the instruction of critical race theory in classrooms. Sponsored by Rep. Julianne Young and Sen. Carl Crabtree, HB 377 would ban any public institutions from teaching that any sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin is inherently superior or inferior. Furthermore, the bill claims that these teachings include critical race theory. [Teaching critical race theory can] exacerbate and inflame divisions on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, or other criteria in ways contrary to the unity of the nation and the well-being of the state of Idaho and its citizens, the bill argues.
