PANAMA CITY Rumors have spread recently about the upcoming April referendum to raise property taxes for Bay District Schools and Superintendent Bill Husfelt recently met with district employees to address those concerns.
The referendum will be on the ballot April 20, and at each presentation Husfelt has held recently on the topic, he s shown the language of the proposed tax increase.
He started Thursday s meeting with the BDS transportation team by noting that some have said that the school board isn t calling it a tax, but it s mentioned on the ballot as being a tax.
The proposed additional one mill will be used for operational expenses, including increases in teacher and other district employee salaries, mental health, school safety and Pre-K programs.
