System of a Down s 2020 songs give Serj Tankian hope that band might do something again together

By Syndicated Content Carlos Tischler/Getty Images Last fall, System of a Down returned with new music for the first time in 15 years. The group released two tracks — “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” — to raise funds and awareness for Armenia amid its war with Azerbaijan. Though it doesn’t appear that any more tunes are currently in the works to follow System’s last album, 2005’s Hypnotize, frontman Serj Tankian has “hope” that won’t always be the case. “I’m really proud of the work that we’ve done with System of a Down, and it does give me hope that one day we might be able to get it together and do something again together,” Tankian tells Heavy Consequence.
