System of a Down returned with new music for the first time in 15 years. The group released two tracks â âProtect the Landâ and âGenocidal Humanoidzâ â to raise funds and awareness for Armenia amid its war with Azerbaijan.
Though it doesnât appear that any more tunes are currently in the works to follow Systemâs last album, 2005âs
Hypnotize, frontman Serj Tankian has âhopeâ that wonât always be the case.
âIâm really proud of the work that weâve done with System of a Down, and it does give me hope that one day we might be able to get it together and do something again together,â Tankian tells Heavy Consequence.

Joe Biden becoming the first U.S. president to formally recognize the Armenian Genocide.
In a statement Saturday, Armenian Remembrance Day, President Biden said, âThe American people honor all those Armenians who perished in the genocide that began 106 years ago today.â
In an Instagram post, frontman
Serj Tankian wrote, âThank you to President Joe Biden for properly recognizing the #ArmenianGenocide.â
âThis is extremely important but only a milestone towards the long road of justice ahead with Turkey and its imminent need to do the same and make amends towards the descendants of 1.5 Million Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians systematically slaughtered by its Ottoman Turkish ancestors,â Tankian continued. âToday, I will say thank you to the U.S. and all those who have fought hard for this statement over the years.â
