The Carlow/Mayo Public Library has a new supply of books for young readers. Last week the Bancroft Lion’s Club made a donation of $150 towards the library’s children’s materials.
The library was able to purchase five books from the Animal Battles series which teaches readers about animals such as grizzly bears, wolves and bears, four books from the Facing Life’s Challenges series which are geared to help youth facing things such as bullying, illness or divorce, and two books about wetlands and the animals that call them home.
These new books will be available to readers next week. Those interested in getting books can loan them out through curbside pick-up by calling CEO/librarian Carrie McKenzie at the library at 613-332-2544.

Libraries across the province, including those close to home, the North Hastings Public Library, Hastings Highlands Public Library, Wollaston Public Library and the Carlow/Mayo Public Library, have been provided with free provincial park day-use passes and discount coupons for future visits, and they are eager for you to take advantage of the offer.
Just like when you borrow a book from the library, you borrow one of the participating library’s Seasonal Day-Use Permit passes that allow free access for one vehicle and its passengers to 100 different provincial parks across Ontario. To borrow a pass you simply have to have a library card. The libraries also have a limited number of next day discount passes that they typically provide to those borrowing a pass.

The Carlow Mayo Public Library has a great new initiative on its Facebook page. Lori Cooper Padgett, who is a library technician at the library, has been posting synopses of some of the library’s new book offerings, so their patrons can get a better idea of what the library has in stock while it is still only doing curbside pickup due to COVID-19. This allows patrons to discover the library’s new books and perhaps even find a new favourite author.
Carrie McKenzie is the CEO and head librarian of the Carlow Mayo Public Library, and says that Cooper Padgett came up with the idea to choose works from the library to write synopses about.
