Now, after more than a year of isolation, the lonely prom dress, and its owner, are ready for their close-up — not in a gymnasium or reception hall, but on the running track outside the Elmhurst high school.

Paul Valade | Staff Photographer   Posted4/25/2021 5:30 AM Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein this Friday will open a new multicultural center to educate students about diversity, equity and inclusion. The center will provide a space where all students can congregate, socialize, learn and feel valued. It is modeled after collegiate multicultural centers.   Officials plan to create new educational and social programs to introduce students to different cultures, ethnicities and religions. To do that, they will bring in speakers to talk about how to be an ally of marginalized groups, promote advocacy for certain needs and incorporate community service opportunities.

Proms for junior and seniors will be held separately Thursday, May 27, at the school. The junior prom will be held first for 90 minutes to two hours in the school gym, followed by the senior prom for the same amount of time.

22 COVID Cases Reported Among Nearly 15K Fully Vaccinated Chicago Nursing Home Staff, Residents: CDC Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that 22 coronavirus cases were reported among fully vaccinated individuals at Chicago-area skilled nursing facilities between Dec. 2020 and March 2021, with two hospitalizations and one death reported among those cases. According to the report, 12 residents and 10 staff members were diagnosed with the virus more than 14 days after receiving their second dose of the coronavirus vaccine as part of the study. In all, 7,931 residents and 6,834 staff members received two doses of the vaccine, meaning that less than one-tenth of a percent of those individuals ultimately contracted COVID during that time.
