I’m going to bet Carroll goes to the Futures Game and ends up promoted to Double-A shortly after the showcase. He’s shown no signs of slowing down after looking like the best player in all of Arizona during 2020 instructs. This is the kind of player who’s going to out-produce his raw power in games because the quality of his contact is just so good. His homer yesterday (which tied the game in the ninth) was hit to the opposite field. It wasn’t like a lot of oppo bombs that rely on brute strength (think of Giancarlo Stanton’s right-center homers) or just happen to suit the swing path of someone with big power (Ryan Howard). Instead, Carroll just dove to try to cover the outer third of the plate and poked the barrel there, and he hit the bottom of the ball with the sweet spot of the bat.

The Diamondbacks Minor League affiliates combined for a record of 2-2. Reno opened up their season with a win, Amarillo would win in extra innings, Hillsboro got dominated, Visalia lost in another slugfest.

3 innings in his first affiliated ball start since Tommy John surgery. He only allowed 2 hits and struck out 8, but walked 4. It was a somewhat encouraging first game back, but we’ll probably need at least a 5-game sample before we consider him as an option for the MLB rotation.

Amarillo struggled to stay in this game. Tommy Henry and Justin Vernia allowed 7 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings, as both pitchers were plagued by the long ball. In total, Amarillo pitchers allowed 4 homers. The Amarillo offense consisted of only two solo home runs, hit by Dominic Fletcher and Ryder Jones.

What may be the most anticipated Minor League season ever opens on Tuesday. After the cancellation of the 2020 schedule, 120 teams at four levels and the vast majority of MLB Pipeline s Top 100 Prospects will get back to playing games that count next week.
We ve been tasked to come up with one prospect from each organization whom we re excited to see play this year, to which our response was: Just one? We could name 300 players whose return to the diamond thrills us, but we ve somehow managed to limit it to 30.

A foot injury suffered in his first full season and last year’s canceled campaign means we haven’t seen Groshans on a Minor League field since May 13, 2019 with Class A Lansing. He’ll open this season at Double-A New Hampshire, where he’ll show off plus bat speed that could result in a solid average and above-average power. The Jays want to keep Groshans at short as long as they can, but as he gets closer to Bo Bichette�
