The first gas-powered car was driven in the U.S. just two years after the City of Hanford was established. On Saturday, July 30, the Carnegie Museum of Kings County will host a vintage transportation show to celebrate the history and 130th birthday of the city.
The CMKC Classic Transportation Exhibit, taking place in the Civic Center Park, will feature 24 entries and run between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Carnegie Museum of Kings County President Jack Schwartz said the group wanted to do more than a classic car show.
âItâs a wide-ranging list of entries because we didnât want to just have a limited classic car exhibit,â said Schwartz. âWe want to give the community a chance to see a wide range of vehicles with ties to Hanford and Kings County.â
The Flashback Festival, a celebration Hanfordâs 130th birthday as a city, will include a number of historical exhibits on Saturday, July 30.
The whole event will stretch from Thursday Night Market on July 28 to the night of July 30, but most of the historical displays, exhibits and events are scheduled Saturday between 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Exhibits will take place at designated locations within walking distance of the Civic Center Park.

The Carnegie Museum of Kings County will cut the ribbon for the new organization on Friday and open its door for the public during the Flashback Festival.
The Carnegie Museum of Kings County has the keys to the grounds, but theyâve got their work cut out for them before their planned reopening at the end of July.
According to museum president Jack Schwartz, theyâve inherited an empty building from their predecessors at Hanford Carnegie Museum, Inc.
The new Carnegie Museum is working on arranging to curate all-new exhibits dealing with Kings County history. For example, they are currently arranging for artifacts from Naval Air Station Lemoore to be displayed as part of the 60
th Anniversary of its opening this summer. Another exhibit is being planned around the history of the Marchbanks Speedway and racing from the 1950s and 60s.
