Police issue warning after garage robberies in Caversham

Image via Google POLICE are warning Caversham residents to lock up their property after three attempted burglaries from sheds and garages were reported in the space of five days. The offending started on Wednesday, April 28 when a thief tried to gain entry to a garage at a property on Geoffreyson Road at around 2am. Fortunately for the homeowners, the offender couldn’t gain access and nothing was stolen. A few days later, on Monday, May 3, a thief forced open a garage door and stole a bicycle from a property on Cardinal Close at an unknown time of 9pm and 7am.

St Barnabas Hospice seeks retail heroes for return of charity shops  | Updated: 10:01, 06 April 2021 Anticipating the return of its charity shops being open again post lockdown, St Barnabas Hospice is seeking new volunteering recruits. After having to close for the duration of the present lockdown, St Barnabas is set to open all of its shops and needs a fresh injection of voluntary help to man the tills, sort through donations and welcome customers back to what is one of its main streams of income. Caroline Peach, Head of Retail at the Hospice, said: “The last year has been challenging for the Hospice, we are currently losing around £1,000 per day due to COVID restrictions. There has been a drain on income at present because of having to close for much of last year and our large-scale events unfortunately not taking place at all.

Reading man jailed for threatening victims with machete

Both victims were also punched and attacked by members of the group. However, the victims managed to get away and reported the attack to police. Then, the victims saw their attacker Muge in the passenger seat of a separate car, which they then followed whilst on the phone to police. Officers later stopped the car and arrested Muge, along with recovering the machete that had been discarded in Shinfield Road. The male victim sustained cut injuries to his hands, and facial injuries including a broken nose and eye socket. The female victim sustained bruising injuries. As a result, Lasaro Muge was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday, December 4, after he pleaded guilty at the same court on 30 October to grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

Man jailed after violent and terrifying attack that left two people injured A 22-year-old man from Reading has been jailed after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. On July 18 this year, a man and a woman were turning their car around in Cardinal Close, Reading, when they were approached by a group including 22-year-old Lasargo Muge.  The group shouted at the pair before Muge threatened the man with a machete through the car door. Both victims were also punched by members of the group. The pair fled and reported the incident, before seeing Muge in the passenger seat of a separate vehicle shortly afterwards, which they then followed while on the phone to police.
