Prince William inks deal for $2.7 million high school site (Photo: Prince William County Public Schools) Woodbridge is on track to get a new high school.   On Wednesday, the Prince William County School Board agreed to purchase 20 acres of land on Telegraph Road, near the Caton Hill Commuter lot off Interstate 95.  The school division agreed to pay $2.7 million to Springfield’s Travers Family Partnership for the property. Previously, the school division considered purchasing land near Prince William Parkway and Hoadly Road in Woodbridge. This will be the 14th high school to be built in the county and is scheduled to open in 2024. The school will house 2,500 students.

Author: Eleanor Skelton Updated: 11:18 PM CST January 25, 2021 BEAUMONT, Texas Lamar University s president announced Monday that he is retiring from the university this summer.  Dr. Kenneth Evans is Lamar University s fifteenth president, the university said in an emailed news release. His retirement will be effective June 30.  The chancellor s office will be conducting a nationwide search for his replacement, the statement said.  Evans came to Lamar University in July 2013, the university said. He focused on supporting faculty research, designing new programs, campus beautification and recruiting and retaining students. 

Man who led officers on high-speed chase pleads guilty

Photo: Noah Lee Lawhead A motorcycle rider who led police on a high-speed chase that began in Gassville, continued through a large swath of Mountain Home and ended at a closed bridge in Missouri about 24 miles up Arkansas Highway 201 North – appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday. Twenty-year-old Noah Lee Lawhead of rural Mountain Home is charged with felony fleeing and a number of traffic violations. He changed his plea to guilty and was sentenced to six years probation. The sentence was imposed under provisions of Act 346, meaning if Lawhead stays out of trouble during his probation, he may apply to have his record sealed.

Waukesha Fire Department responds to basement fire; one injured WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) - The Waukesha Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire on Cardinal Drive around 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10. Officials say units on scene were able to make an aggressive fire attack, locate, and extinguish a fire in the basement of the 2-story duplex. The occupants were alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors throughout the building, according to a news release. The fire was contained to the basement of the duplex. One subject was treated for minor burns at the scene, but was not transported to the hospital.
