Model of Cardigan Railway Station brought to town

The model of Cardigan Railway Station will go on display at Cardigan Castle. A MODEL of Cardigan Railway Station in all its glory has steamed back into town, councillors have learnt. Although the station – located on what is now the Pentood Industrial Estate – closed in 1964, the model of how it was as a working station has been re-located to Cardigan Castle. Cllr John Adams-Lewis said the site of the former station could actually be seen from the room where the model will go on public display. The castle agreed to house the model station at Castle Green House this summer – 57 years after an emotional crowd bearing a funeral wreath waved the last train off from Cardigan as the station which had served the town for almost a century fell victim to the Beeching Axe.

Model shows the old Cardigan railway station as it was back in the day

A MODEL of the Cardigan’s former railway station could soon be on permanent display in the town. The Cardi Bach museum wish to relocate a model of the old Cardigan Railway station and Cllr John Adams-Lewis told February’s meeting of the town council that renovation work on it had been completed and it was ready to be moved. “The station closed back in 1964 and this was made by someone from Cilgerran and is part of the town’s history,” said Cllr Adams-Lewis. The model is nearly two-and-a-half-metres long and a metre wide and the council is to contact the castle to see if it could display it.
