A new mural has been completed in Monkstown, the collaborative work of local and professional artists.
The majestic mural is in the ‘Cut-and-Cover’ Tunnel in Monkstown, where the iconic underpass has been upgraded with colour and imagery, in an homage to the town’s rail, industrial and maritime heritage.
The project was commissioned by Cork County Council and completed by artists from ‘The Walls Project’, who have experience in delivering large-scale, impactful murals that aim to improve community spaces through artistic expression.

A 19-year-old Cork musician was plucked from obscurity and placed on stage in front of thousands of people, thanks to an international friendship - and the internet.
Abigail Mulcahy - O’Connell appeared on Italy’s Got Talent alongside her friend Federico Perotti who was auditioning on the show this week.
Federico’s audition, which was supposed to be a duet with Abigail via Video link, took place last September but aired recently in Italy.
Cork loses soprano superstar Cara O Sullivan

Cork’s Soprano “superstar” Cara O’Sullivan has passed away at the age of 59.
The singer who was diagnosed with early-onset dementia in 2018, died at Marymount Hospice on Tuesday.
Friend of Cara’s, fellow soprano Mary Hegarty said she was “heartbroken” for her family including Cara’s daughter Christine.
“She was a one-off in every way. We sang together in the Cork school of music and throughout our career.
Speaking about Cara’s illness, Ms Hegarty said it was heartbreaking to watch. “Her illness took the life out of her, it was heartbreaking to see.”
