China car sales, production hit by chip supply shortage, says Volkswagen
Other carmakers including Ford, Toyota and Nissan have said that they would cut vehicle production this month

German Automaker car making firm Volkswagen
German automaker Volkswagen AG lost sales of tens of thousands of cars in China as a global chip supply shortage impacted its production in December, the head of its China operations, Stephan Wollenstein, said on Wednesday.
Volkswagen is the biggest foreign automaker in China, the world s biggest car market.
Global automakers including Ford Motor Co, Toyota Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co Ltd have said they would cut vehicle production this month due to a shortage of semiconductors.

BEIJING: China’s sales of SUVs, minivans and sedans fell for a third year in 2020 as the coronavirus hurt already weak demand in the industry’s top global market, an industry group reported Wednesday.
Sales declined 6% compared with 2019 to 20.2 million, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Sales of commercial vehicles rose 18.7% to 5.1 million.
