A Balclutha man who had a few drinks the night before his wedding was charged with drink-driving.
Having a few drinks on the night before his wedding led to a groom being charged with drink-driving on the morning of his big day. Gerald Rahui Reeves, 38, of Balclutha, was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for seven months when he appeared before Judge John Brandts-Giesen in the Gore District Court on Wednesday. The court heard that on 2.10am on January 29, a Nissan Nivara vehicle was observed being driven under the speed limit on Frankton Rd, in Queenstown. It crossed over to the left-hand side of the road markings and was stopped by police.

A man has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in the Gore District Court for breaching his extensive supervision conditions.
A Southland man s mother put his cellphone into a glass of water because she was not happy about him having it, a court was told. Hamish James Dixon-Heads, 27, of Mataura, was banned from accessing the internet for 10 years as part of an extensive supervision order, was sentenced in the Gore District Court on Wednesday on two charges of breaching that order. The charges stemmed after Corrections were sent screenshots of a Tinder profile with Dixon-Heads’ name and photo on it, the court was told.
When asked about having a Tinder profile, Dixon-Heads stated he did not have one. When shown the screenshots he said ‘’I do not know how they got my photos”. On February 2, Dixon-Heads admitted to having a mobile phone. The phone was unable to be turned on or checked because it had been placed in water at some stage prior to the interview with Community Corrections. When questioned, Dixon-Heads said he had purchased the phone at Noel Leeming in Gore in mid to late 2020 but could not provide a more specific time frame, the summary of facts says. Dixon-Heads was remanded in custody and was expected to be sentenced on February 24.
