Lifestyle by Kathy Skantzos 10th Feb 2021 1:32 PM When Nick Jungfer, 27, and his partner Maddie Rhodes, 26, made the move from Adelaide to Sydney in December 2019, their cost of living jumped dramatically and they knew they needed to find a way to save. The couple realised they no longer needed their two cars in Sydney and would instead get around on public transport, cycling and walking. When we moved to Sydney we were looking at paying almost double the rent we were previously paying and we needed to find different ways that we could save money. It just made sense to ditch the cars, which we couldn t afford anyway, Nick said.
Queenslanders are raking in cash by renting out their vehicles to strangers
Business by Kylie Lang 12th Jan 2021 3:18 PM Queenslanders are overtaking the rest of the nation in making fast cash from their cars, with some pocketing $1000 a week. Since April the number of people hiring out their vehicles has jumped by 169 per cent, with residents in West End, Fortitude Valley, South Brisbane, New Farm and Surfers Paradise making most use of the Car Next Door online service. When Maggie McComiskie is away from her Newstead home working as a heavy vehicle operator at Cavil Ridge mine in Central Queensland, her Mazda 2 Genki is zipping around town earning her income.

The Tasmanian Government acknowledges that the reintroduction of some border restrictions resulting from the NSW COVID-19 outbreak to keep Tasmanians safe is impacting on our tourism industry.
Prior to the outbreak in NSW, work was underway to assist with rental car shortages in Tasmania over the peak holiday period.
Tasmania is still welcoming tourists from around the nation, and the Christmas and New Year holiday period is an especially busy time for car rental operations.
To help meet demand we have reached agreement with the Motor Accident Insurance Board to cut the insurance premiums payable for new hire cars for a limited time.
