Village Trustee Sara Schmidt noted how dangerous it is for the crossing guard and for the students at the school. She reported students have had some close calls. Chief of Police Dave Rothe said he will talk to the school and have them turn on the warning lights on M-19. It was noted the issue of turning on the warning lights had been requested before but they have not been turned on.

Caro Police Chief Brian Newcomb said Topham, 39, was a volunteer Mayville firefighter and the owner of a seamless gutter company and was working with his crew when he got tangled up and fell. Newcomb estimated Topham s fall was more than 30 feet. Newcomb said Caro Police Department was assisted on scene by Caro Fire Department, Tuscola County Sheriff s Office and MMR. Newcomb said emergency personnel provided lifesaving measures and attempted to airlift Topham to the hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
