Lexington votes to hire diversity, equity and inclusion professional

The Dispatch The Lexington City Council voted to hire a full-time employee dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion of city staff during its meeting on Monday. The 4-3 vote came after Lexington City Manager Terra Greene presented her proposal that the city hire an independent consultant, assessed by a diversity and inclusion team made of city employees, to provide professional recommendations for a strategic direction. She said this would include determining what a DEI professional job description would be; the salary that would need to be budgeted, an organizational assessment and what staff resources may be needed. The proposed consultant would have begun in February.

All roads lead to grandma: Lexington woman honored with street naming The Dispatch Francis Burns has seen a lot of changes in the past 45 years she has lived off of Cotton Grove Road in Lexington. The most recent and, according to her, amazing change is that city officials have named the alley behind her house after her in honor of the contributions she has given to the community. “It was really a surprise,” Burns said. “I was shocked, but I am so proud and tickled.” Burns is the first recipient of a new honorary street designation program the Lexington City Council approved in November.
