Image Source: IANS News Patna, April 12 : Four policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), have been placed under suspension by the Bihar police for alleged links with the liquor mafia in Nawada district. D.S. Savlaram, the Nawada Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident. She has taken strong action on the report of the Special Investigation team (SIT) which was formed to probe the spurious liquor case that took 15 lives while four others lost their eyesight since March 29. The deceased persons had consumed spurious liquor on March 29 to celebrate Holi.

PATNA: After only five initial arrests, police have not been able to nab anyone else in connection with the deaths of 16 persons and illness of ten more from poisonous hooch in Nawada town which took place one after another from the day of Holi. Surprisingly, police said that it was yet not clear who had supplied raw spirit for manufacturing the poisonous liquor. Police had arrested Pappu Yadav, Suraj alias Karpu Choudhary, Minta Devi and her son Anil Choudhary for their alleged involvement in the hooch deaths on April 5. Next day, police claimed the arrest of kingpin Arvind Yadav from Kolkata. Police said that it was Arvind who had manufactured the poisonous hooch at Kharidi Bigha village looking especially at Holi festival.

Image Source: IANS News Patna, April 6 : The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nawada Police arrested four persons responsible for making poisonous hooch that claimed 15 lives while four others lost their eyesight permanently. Nawada SP D S Savlaram said that the SIT has arrested Suraj Chaudhery alias Karku Chaudhery of Kharidi Bigha village, Pappu Yadav of Gondapur and Anil Chaudhery and Manti Devi of Budhaul village on Tuesday. The officer accepted that the deaths happened in Nawada were due to consumption of poisonous liquor. The accused have confessed that they were running makeshift liquor manufacturing units in their respective villages from where they sold hooch to villagers on Holi, Savlaram said.

More than 8 persons have died after consuming hooch during the Holi celebration in Nawada district while other deaths were reported from Begusarai and Muzaffarpur. Officials of concerned districts did not admit the cause of deaths was consumption of spurious liquor but family members of many victims have admitted that alcohol was used by the deceased.
