KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (WBTV) - A law enforcement officer is recovering after being hurt in a shooting Saturday evening in Kings Mountain.
Kings Mountain Police Officer Cpl Frank Lee Whittington Jr. underwent surgery and is expected to survive, according to police chief Lisa Proctor. Whittington has served with the police department for 13 years.
âWe are thankful he is still alive,â said Proctor. âWe are thankful we are not planning the third funeral in more than a week for another law enforcement officer.â

CONCORD, N.C. A Concord Police officer and a suspect were killed in a shooting near Concord Mills Mall in Concord, North Carolina, late Wednesday night, authorities confirmed. A second officer was also shot and injured.
Jason Shuping, 25, has been identified as the officer shot and killed trying to apprehend an alleged carjacker.

ROCKWELL, N.C. (WBTV) - A Rowan County deputy who died in a crash in Charlotte will be laid to rest this week, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
Kara Alsup, who was a detention officer with the Sheriff’s Office, will have her funeral service at 2 p.m. on Friday at Powles-Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.
A visitation will be at 12:30 p.m.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - Kara Alsup, the 25-year-old Rowan County Sheriffâs Office deputy who died in a crash n Charlotte last week received a police escort back to Rockwell on Monday.
Alsup was brought back to the Powles-Staton Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Before going to Rockwell, the procession went through downtown Salisbury and in front of the Rowan Sheriffâs Office.
âI think that the officers and the personnel from the courthouse, clerk of court, judges, showed respect and honor for her career as a detention officer and I think everyone has been touched by the accidentâ¦a life cut too short,â said Major John Sifford.
