4 Things to Do Before Your Car Gets Repossessed

14 Apr 2021 The Penny Hoarder | By Tiffany Connors The effects of the coronavirus pandemic have been especially burdensome on auto-loan borrowers. Unlike student loans and mortgages, there are no government-backed relief programs to cover a monthly car payment. The result is most devastating for subprime borrowers those with credit scores under 600. (The average credit score in the U.S. is slightly above 700.) Serious delinquency levels within that group rose about 22% between the fourth quarters of 2019 and 2020. If you miss even one payment, your lender technically can repossess your wheels. So what can you do if you know you’re in danger of having your car repossessed or if it’s already been repossessed? Check out this guide to help you before, during and after car repossession to help you and your finances survive this bumpy ride.

Free Credit Reports Extended Until April 2022—Here s How To Get Yours

KXLY March 3, 2021 7:48 AM Lisa Rowan - Forbes Advisor Posted: Updated: March 5, 2021 3:42 AM When the pandemic began, the three major credit bureaus allowed Americans to access their credit reports for free once weekly through April 20, 2021, instead of the once-yearly access normally required by federal law. Today, those credit bureaus Equifax, Experian and TransUnion have announced an extension of that access through April 20, 2022.  The bureaus’ joint hub for free credit reports, AnnualCreditReport.com, typically allows consumers to access one free credit report from each bureau each year. Extending the weekly allowance by a year gives consumers more time to keep an extra close eye on their credit history during a time when they may be struggling to pay their bills and when scammers are targeting everything from stimulus checks to unemployment benefits.
