A WOMAN whose gran confronted a serial thief as she tried to rob her home has spoken of her pride in her 85-year-old relative for refusing to back down. Pensioner Patricia Melvin challenged thief Pauline Hawkins, who has had 138 previous convictions, at her sheltered housing home in Yoker in June. The 45-year-old had been spotted raking through Melvin’s bag, but after being confronted by the senior citizen, only made off with whisky, money and a purse. Patricia’s granddaughter, Trisha Melvin, spoke to the Post this week about the ordeal her gran went through. “It’s been horrible,” Trisha said. “We put her in there to be safer as she was staying on her own.

Prosecutor Amy Hunter then told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “The woman approached Hawkins and attempted to remove her bag from her. “But, Hawkins subsequently prevented her from getting it back.” The thief eventually fled with whisky, money and a purse also among her loot. Medics who later treated the pensioner initially feared she had suffered a heart attack as a result of her ordeal.
