Supply drinking water from Tamirabharani, villagers appeal to Collector

Seeking supply of drinking water from the Tamirabharani instead of supplying calcium-rich drinking water being supplied from the deep borewells that was causing kidney ailments, a group of villagers submitted a petition during the weekly grievances redressal meet held here on Monday. In their petition, a group of villagers from Sivagnanapuram under Servaikaaranmadam village panchayat said drinking water to the residents of Sivagnanapuram, Thangammalpuram, Jakkammalpuram, Kamaraj Nagar, Servaikaaranmadam, Alwar Nagar and Senthiyambalam was being supplied from the deep borewells sunk in the irrigation tank and also in the nearby sandy areas. As calcium content in the drinking water being pumped from these borewells was high, a good number of people was suffering from gastro and nephrological complications and a few of them had succumbed to the diseases.

CHENNAI: During heavy rains, seven areas near Mathur, suffer from severe waterlogging. The reason - a raised lorry parking in Kalyana Sundaranar Nagar, obstructs water flow to the culvert on NH5, and which drains into the Kosasthalaiyar river.

Chain-snatchers continue to prowl in the city with repeated instances of them targeting women, even those standing in front of their houses, getting reported.
On Tuesday, two youths who came in a two-wheeler snatched 4.5 sovereign gold chain of K. Pushpa (58), a resident of Ayya Samy Kovil Street at Kempatty Colony, when she was standing on the road in front of her house after dinner.
The police said that the rider wore a helmet and the pillion rider who snatched the chain wore a mask. The Bazaar Street police have started investigation based on a complaint lodged by the woman.
