JACKSON, MI – Jackson County’s docket for jury trials, currently on hold because of COVID-19 safety concerns, features about three times as many homicide cases as usual.
When jury trials do resume, the 18 defendants charged in those homicide cases will be among the large backlog of cases Jackson County along with the rest of Michigan will need to prioritize and work through.
Between the backlog of murder cases and other serious felonies, along with new cases, Jackson County Circuit Judge Thomas Wilson estimates it’ll take a year and a half to catch up on trials.
