Speaker from Solomon Islands joins south Shropshire climate action conference

Gladys Habu will be joining the Shropshire Climate Action Group as a keynote speaker at ‘Next Steps.’ Her home in the south Pacific is threatened by rising sea levels. Ms Habu, is a climate activist who has campaigned for many years at a local and international level to advocate for increased awareness of the impact of climate change. Recently her climate work was recognised by Her Majesty the Queen and she became the 168th Commonwealth Point of Light awardee. She is a Pharmacy Honours graduate from Monash University and works as a full time Pharmacist at the Solomon Islands National Referral Hospital.

Her Majesty The Queen awards Madibana for community service

AWARD: Kagiso Madibana s Commonwealth Point of Light Award Local Philanthropist, Kagiso Madibana was last Friday awarded Commonwealth Point of Light in honour of her exceptional voluntary service. 32-year-old Bobonong born Madibana is the founder of Nayang Association that focuses on helping the under-privileged school going children in rural areas with shoes, food, sanitary towels and clothes. Through her ‘Soles for Souls’ project Madibana managed to collect and donate more than 6000 pairs of school shoes to students. As part of the legacy of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London 2018, Her Majesty the Queen, as Head of the Commonwealth, is thanking inspirational volunteers across the 54 Commonwealth nations for the difference they are making in their communities and beyond.
