The image was later shared by many with claims that the police officer in the picture was assaulting a woman, which later turn out to be false.
In reality, the woman was dragging the police officer by his collar, while he was trying to resist and free himself.
The incident happened in Uttar Pradesh s Kanpur Dehat district.
The misleading version of the image sparked outrage on social media.
The officer, identified as Pukhrayan outpost in-charge Mahendra Patel, was accused of misbehaving with women when he along with a team of four constabled went to raid the house of one of the accused.

LUCKNOW/JAIPUR/KOTA: As many as 49 people were killed in various parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan after lightning struck them on Sunday.
According to reports, lightning strikes killed 30 people across UP, including 14 in Prayagraj, five in Kanpur Dehat, four in Kaushambi, three in Firozabad and two each in Unnao and Chitrakoot.
