The Kanpur Dehat Police denied the allegations and said that the team was attacked by the women of the family of Shivam Yadav, who according to the police, had threatened a candidate in the panchayat elections.

The image was later shared by many with claims that the police officer in the picture was assaulting a woman, which later turn out to be false. In reality, the woman was dragging the police officer by his collar, while he was trying to resist and free himself. The incident happened in Uttar Pradesh s Kanpur Dehat district. The misleading version of the image sparked outrage on social media. The officer, identified as Pukhrayan outpost in-charge Mahendra Patel, was accused of misbehaving with women when he along with a team of four constabled went to raid the house of one of the accused.
