Cork Trees House / TRAMA arquitetos

We were approached by a young family, who has a close relationship with architecture, to develop a project that materialized the DNA of Trama Arquitetos. Furthermore, in addition to a harmonious design, the project should focus on the space details. The intention was to surprise, to integrate the exterior surroundings with the interior environment, to merge spaces and create sensations, without discouraging functionality. © João Morgado The name of the house reflects the fundamental role that the native vegetation played during the project development. The terrain, on a steep slope, is composed of a grove of centuries-old cork oak trees, located on the lowest level. In this context, the house was designed to enjoy the best sun exposure and also the open views over the mountains and valleys of the region.

© Fernando Guerra | FG+SG The functional and aesthetic transformation went much further to satisfy this three-child family needs by converting a bedroom into a suite, an idea accomplished due to a successful strategy which involved eliminating the access corridor of two existing sanitary facilities. With this space achievement, it was possible to expand both the i.s. of the suite and the i.s. of common use. The nowadays trend is to recreate kitchens and bathrooms, making them functional and easy to maintain. Therefore, based on these assumptions, the option was to clad both kitchen and bathrooms with micro-cement and recover the original wooden floor. At the entrance, one of the most impressive elements is the large stained-glass on the ceiling, a beautiful and noble element that had deserved all the cares, from its cleaning to restore, thus bringing back its former celestial aura.
