We know a lot about the causes of relationship breakups, thanks largely to the work of John Gottman at the University of Oregon. In one study of couples with nursery-age children his team were able to predict with 93.6 per cent accuracy which pairs would split up within three years. In another – this time with newlyweds – the team predicted with 87 per cent accuracy which pairs would separate within 4-6 years and with 81 per cent accuracy which would go their separate ways within 7-9 years.

Finally, our social calendars are beginning to fill up as pubs and restaurants reopen (with both indoor and outdoor seating). As someone who has had her fair share of walks and picnics, I can’t wait to go for a pint with my friends.
Despite feeling nervous about indoor venues, which reopened on May 17, I feel comfortable sitting in beer gardens, as the risk of Covid transmission is reduced outdoors. More than anything, I’m excited that my paper calendar, which has been empty for so long, is finally starting to fill up.
