ZPD Investigates Fatal Accident on West Main Street
The Zanesville Police Department is investigating a fatal accident Monday evening. It happened around 8:00 p.m. on West Main Street by Gant Municipal Stadium.
Chief Tony Coury says 41-year-old Adam Barnhart of Zanesville was traveling east, went left of center and struck head-on another vehicle heading west. That car was driven by 28-year-old April Compton, also of Zanesville. Barnhart was killed in the crash. Compton, who suffered serious injuries, and three passengers were taken to Genesis HealthCare for treatment.
Chief Coury says initial investigation suggests Barnhart was traveling at an excessive speed. The Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation.

According to the Zanesville Police Department, the crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. on West Main Street by Gant Municipal Stadium.
Reports say, 41-year-old Adam Barnhart of Zanesville was traveling eastbound, when he allegedly went left of center, and struck a westbound vehicle head-on, driven by 28-year-old April Compton, also of Zanesville.
Compton suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision; She, as well as three passengers, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Barnhart was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speed is considered to be factor in the crash, that remains under investigation.
