Selected from five nominees, Blockton, a single mother, was moved to tears after learning of her win. “I cried happy tears,” she said. “I felt all the nights I stayed up late doing homework was worth it. Hernandez, the daughter of Timothy Hernandez and Carrie Stewart of Godfrey, attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Grade School. At Marquette Catholic High School she has maintained a GPA above 4.0 while being in a full honors course of study all four years of high school, which led to her selection as a St. Louis Post-Dispatch “A” Student each year and being inducted into the Rose Morelli chapter of National Honor Society her junior year.

Discovery Day Camp returns this summer FacebookTwitterEmail GODFREY The Nature Institute’s (TNI) popular Discovery Day Camp opens for enrollment this week. The 39-year-old 700-acre camp at TNI, 2213 S. Levis Lane, in Godfrey includes programs for campers and their families in nature. TNI’s camp is certified as an Illinois Nature Preserve. Camp registration opens Thursday, March 18, for TNI members and Friday, March 19, for non-members. According to TNI Education Director Emily Ehley, Discovery Day Camp takes place one week at a time during June and July, with the exception of the week of July 4. “We’ll keep groups at no more than 10, spaced out and separate from each other throughout the day, and we’ll be outdoors the entire time,” Ehley said. “We’ll be masking whenever we’re close to each other. All staff and campers will have masks and we’ll have extras as necessary.”

GODFREY After more than a year of planning, drivers coming into Godfrey from Illinois 255 will now know exactly where they are. In May 2020, Pride, Incorporated’s Chairman of Beautification, Karen Wilson, presented a detailed plan to the village board for enhancing the entrances to Godfrey. Mayor Mike McCormick and Jim Mager, Director of Economic Development, had been discussing ideas with Pride members and local businessowners to spruce up the business district and make Godfrey more attractive to outsiders.
