Voters Pass Godfrey Fire Protection District Question

WBGZ Radio 4/6/2021 | By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio   The Godfrey Fire Protection District is considering a plan to consolidate operations into one firehouse and is asking the public to support a bond issue that would help make that happen. Voters said yes to the question 69% to 31% with just short of 3,200 votes cast. The Fire Chief says this will also fund updated essential emergency equipment including cardiac monitors and firefighter turnout gear. It would also allow the district to replace antiquated vehicles that are increasingly expensive to maintain. In a previous interview, Eric Cranmer told The Big Z with the bond proposal now approved, property taxes on a $100,000 house would increase approximately 79-cents per week.

It鈥檚 Election Day | Alton Daily News

By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio   It s Election Day, and polls will open at 6am. The consolidated election chooses many of your local lawmakers, including mayors, aldermen or trustees, school board members, and others. Early voting numbers have been weak across the region. Wood River has one of the more crowded tickets, with a sometimes-contentious mayoral race up for grabs, and six candidates running for the two spots open on the city council. It’s a busy ticket in Alton as well, with several contested aldermanic seats as well as the mayor’s race. It’s the same story in Godfrey, with races for Mayor, Village Clerk, and Trustees. There are more contested races in places like Brighton, Grafton, Hartford, Roxana, and South Roxana. One of the local referenda involves the Godfrey Fire Protection District, which is asking voters to support a bond issue to pay for a new firehouse. There are two spots open on the Board of Trustees at Lewis and Clark Community College as well. Polls a

Godfrey debates Glazebrook work, paying power bills

Godfrey debates Glazebrook work, paying power bills Dylan Suttles, dylan.suttles@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail An effort to advance Glazebook Park improvements led to a discussion about sewers and stormwater. In 2019, Godfrey applied for an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to construct the first phase of the expansion of Glazebrook Park. The project includes three athletic fields, a splash pad, a concession stand/bathrooms, a fishing pier, fitness equipment, pavilions, a playground and walking trail, along with about 500 parking stalls and access roads. The state is awarding Godfrey $400,000 toward the project, half which has already been received and is being held until the completion of the project when a reimbursement request can be made for the remaining $200,000.
