In-Shape Health Clubs has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection because of the coronavirus and resulting lockdown orders imposed by the state.
The Stockton-based company founded some 40 years ago said it will continue day-to-day operations at clubs currently open outdoors statewide, including the West Lane location on Bianchi Road in Stockton, In-Shape Tracy Blvd. and the Manteca In-Shape on Yosemite Avenue. In-Shape Health Clubs on Hammer Lane and March Lane in Stockton and In-Shape Lodi remain temporarily closed, though outdoor fitness in Lodi is scheduled to open soon. In Stockton, In-Shape Marina, In-Shape Downtown and In-Shape Quail Lakes have closed permanently, as have the Lathrop, Manteca West, Tracy 11th Street and Tracy Grant Line clubs. In March, the company closed its downtown Stockton headquarters.

California’s COVID-19 pandemic rules forced In-Shape Health Clubs to file for bankruptcy.
The Chapter 11 filing Wednesday aimed at retaining 45 to 50 clubs means 17 clubs including Manteca West in the SaveMart shopping center and Lathrop will not reopen. In-Shape has also permanently closed two of their three Tracy locations Grant Line Road and Eleventh Street as well as three Stockton locations at Quail Lakes, Marina and Downtown.
The Manteca club on East Yosemite Avenue is one of the 16 In-Shape clubs that are now open for outdoor activities as are the Tracy Boulevard and Stockton West Lane locations.
