New experiences, meeting new people, getting out into nature: great job

DELWP Living in Perth at the time, Afie Jazreen literally flew across the country to fulfill a dream to become a Project Firefighter (PFF). “I had just finished my degree in Western Australia when I heard about Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) recruiting their latest batch of PFFs,” Afie said. “By becoming a PFF it gave me the best of both worlds; I could use the firefighting skills I learnt as a volunteer in Western Australia and get out into nature. “The ability to experience new ways of fire suppression, and in an area of forest that I’d never experienced before sounded exciting.

Job of lifetime

DELWP A job advert for seasonal Project Firefighters (PFF) on Forest Fire Management Victoria’s (FFMVic) Facebook page sparked Dave Gamble’s interest to apply. Dave had spent five years working as a traffic controller, but what he really wanted was a career that he enjoyed and could progress in. “I spend a lot of my free time on Country camping, hiking and just spending time out in the bush so a job revolving around looking after our public land seemed perfect,” Dave said. “When I heard that I was successful you couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.”
