The seeing eye Mar 5, 2021 FOOD GIVEAWAY: Eastside Crimewatch will host a food giveaway 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the old fire station, corner of Oak and Fruit streets. Those needing food are asked to bring identification and bags. For information, call 330-742-4880. CEMETERY CLEANUP: Tod Homestead Cemetery’s annual cleanup will be March 15. All decorations on the graves, including solar lights and artificial in cemetery vases, will be removed at this time. Anyone wishing to recover their decorations must do so before that date. The cemetery is located at 2200 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. EASTER BASKETS: Emmanuel Community Care Center will distribute Easter baskets to children ages 2 to 11 whose families are registered at the center. Those wishing to receive an Easter basket can call the center through March 14. Due to the recent COVID-19 restrictions, families will be called when their baskets are ready to be picked up.

Ozarks Food Harvest Check Out Hunger Fundraiser Breaks Record

Dozens of local grocery stores joined Ozarks Food Harvest for the effort. Customers at the check-out line could add $1, $3, or $5 to their total and that money goes to providing meals for children, families and seniors in the Ozarks. The fundraiser actually ended in December but the food bank had continued to receive checks from grocers through part of 2021. You can read more with a press release below…

Akron-Canton Foodbank kicks off 30th Annual Harvest For Hunger Campaign

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank kicked off its 30th annual Harvest For Hunger campaign virtually Tuesday, announcing new initiatives such as a food truck to help curb community hunger. What normally would have been a morning filled with local celebrity guest shopping challenges and a pancake breakfast was limited to a virtual press conference due to COVID-19. This year’s campaign goal is the equivalent of 5.6 million meals  $1.39 million and 100,000 pounds of food. The fundraising effort runs through June. Online donations made through Friday will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,500 by other donors. Akron-Canton Foodbank officials say that if the challenge is met, it will help provide an additional 204,000 meals for the local community. Those who wish to donate but aren’t comfortable heading out to a nearby store may donate online, by visiting the Foodbank website.
