The No. 9 Florida State softball team (29-6, 17-2 ACC) swept Syracuse (15-13, 8-10) in a doubleheader Saturday. The Seminoles earned a 7-3 win in game one and a 9-0 run-rule victory in game two. In game one, the Seminoles tied the program’s single-game record with six home runs. The homers were hit by five different players and equaled a mark established May 18, 2019, against South Florida. Game 1 – No. 9 Florida State 7, Syracuse 3 The Seminoles used a program-record-tying six home runs hit by five different players to score their seven runs in game one. Devyn Flaherty led the way with two home runs and three RBI, while Anna Shelnutt, Cassidy Davis, Josie Muffley and Kiersten Landers all added solo home runs. Landers also stole two bases during game one.

The No. 9 Florida State softball team (31-6, 19-2 ACC) completed a four-game weekend sweep of Syracuse (15-15, 8-13) by taking both games of a Sunday doubleheader. The Seminoles earned a 3-2 extra-inning win in game one and a 13-1 run-rule victory in game two. In the first inning of game two, Sydney Sherrill tied the ACC career record with her 58th double. The redshirt junior from Moore, Oklahoma, broke the FSU record on Feb. 27 and currently ranks fifth nationally among all active players. FSU hit six more home runs on Sunday and smashed 13 total home runs during the four-game series.

But then FSU’s Kiersten Landers knocked a double into the left-center field gap, putting the tying run in scoring position in the top of the seventh. Pitching coach Michael Steuerwald came out to talk to Hendrix, but she walked the next batter with a pitch in the dirt and was pulled for Kaia Oliver. Oliver allowed Kalei Harding to single through the right side, and Landers ran through SU catcher Geana Torres and tied the game at 2-2. 

Softball Sweeps No 20 Duke With a Walk-Off Bunt

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The No. 10 Florida State softball team (27-6) earned the series sweep over No. 20 Duke (27-9) with a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles earned the win on a one-out walk-off bunt from Anna Shelnutt, scoring Sydney Sherrill. The Seminoles were strong on the base paths this afternoon, stealing eight bases, one shy of the program record and season-high of nine against Georgia Tech. No. 20 Duke 3, No. 10 Florida State 4 Caylan Arnold started and pitched 4.2 innings for the Noles in the final game of the series against the Blue Devils. She allowed five hits and three runs with two strikeouts.

NOLES RECORD FIFTH STRAIGHT SHUT-OUT, DEFEAT DUKE

Junior pitcher Danielle Watson (5-0) continued her strong showing by tossing seven scoreless innings and allowing just three hits and striking out two in 29 batters faced. She did not allow an extra base hit to the Blue Devils (27-7, 15-7) tonight. Duke pitcher Shelby Walters (11-3) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits in six innings pitched. Walters entered the matchup with an impressive 0.94 ERA. The Seminoles (25-6, 13-2) opened the game up in the bottom of the second inning. Anna Shelnutt led off the frame with a walk, followed by a single up the middle from Cassidy Davis. Josie Muffley then singled to third base on a bunt to load the bases with no outs, and Kiersten Landers hit a soft groundout that was just enough to score Shelnutt from third base.
